"I am extremely honoured that the Nordoff Robbins songwriting prize is to be named after George Young and myself. Anything we can do to encourage good songwriting, and support such a worthwhile cause is a positive thing.
"Writing a song can be a tough business, and while true it can take no more than five minutes, a songwriter can often work on a song for weeks, months or even years before they consider the song finished. This competition and the prizes on offer provide an opportunity to make it all worthwhile."
